Second Life on CSI:NY - it can find suspects but can it find staff?
about Photo - Image Isn't it amazing how watching a very popular TV series can turn into an argument regarding recruitment!! As a devoted fan of the US series CSI:NY I settled in to watch the latest episode last night and was enjoying their foray into the world of Second Life and using it to catch a killer- I wonder if Scotland Yard have thought of this yet? I was explaining to the other people watching (who had not even heard of Second Life!) a bit more about it and what it is all about. I then uttered the sentence, 'well of course you know alot of big companies use it for recruiting, expecting a reply of ' oh really that's interesting'.
What followed next was a very heated debate on what rubbish it was, and 'how can you make up avatars and be someone your are not to get a job, and how could companies trust you anyway?'. While I sort of defended Second Life as a cutting edge medium for recruiting, I did struggle to defend that last comment, because I guess I am not really sure about it myself!!
So, if you can elaborate further and tell me why Second Life actually works - not just for identifying and finding killers obviously - in the world of recruitment, with changing avatars etc, then I could continue my argument in time for the next episode!!!
