You don’t need to become a social media muscle bound junkie!

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to, right?  I mean, just because these guys had access to supplements (natural ones of course!), it didn't mean they had to take them when they were bodybuilding, did it?

The same applies to all of you and your social media activities - just because all the social media platforms exist - and there are hundreds, literally - you don't have to pump them all into your life!!

It comes down to a very basic question. Do YOU actually know why you are on the social networks you using?

For some Facebook is all they want or need - others they want LinkedIn, Viadeo or Xing for their professional life. Some want Twitter for following what others are doing in real time, and Foursquare to stalk them officially.

Don't listen to people when they say you have to have all of it to make your footprint as wide as possible. You don't. Have the ones that are useful and meaningful to you.

For a start you have a life and you need to get out there in the real world, not just in the social world. Second if you are trying to pump all these networks in, you need to ask why. Why the hell not just do a small number of social media networks well and in an engaging way, rather than getting all out of proportion and social media muscle bound!

Know where your social audience is, then figure out the best way of engaging with them.

For me it is simple: LinkedIn; Facebook; Twitter; Foursquare; Google Plus; YouTube and this blog of course!

Are you a social media muscle bound junkie? How many do you actively participate on?
