Last night I was asked a question regarding LinkedIn connections and Twitter, which I responded to (I hope you found it easy Mark?) via two tweets. I thought I would elaborate further in a post as I am sure there will be others looking to do the same.
The question from Mark was:
"How can I find out which of my LinkedIn connections are on Twitter?'
This was easy when Twitter and LinkedIn were better connected, but since they 'parted company' a few weeks ago, it is now a simple click away!
Knowing which of your LinkedIn connections is on Twitter is certainly a good starting point for all those just getting started with Twitter, as it should give you a good starting point for your following (presuming they wan't to connect with you on Twitter!)
This is the process you need to take to answer the question.
Export your LinkedIn connections as a .CSV file. Click on the Connections tab on the top toolbar, and then go to the bottom of the page. Click on Export connections. You will then see this screen. Export and save them to a .CSV file on your computer.
For this next stage you need to have a webmail based account such as GMail, Yahoo or Hotmail (if you haven't they are quick and easy to get a free account).
Upload your saved .CSV file of your LinkedIn connections to your contacts in your GMail, Yahoo or Hotmail account.
You then click on the relevant email account (shown below), and give it permission to check your contacts. Twitter will then tell you who from your Contacts is on Twitter, and who you are not following. It will then prompt you to follow them (or the ones you want to from the list.)
It doesn't take long to do, and actually downloading a copy of your contacts is a good way of backing up something that might have taken you years to create anyway!
