about Good Talent Attraction Is Crucial
People use Twitter for many different reasons, for me it is all about engaging with the business community. Please note that I said 'engaging with' NOT 'selling to'!!
Just because it is 'business focused', it doesn't mean that you still can't have some fun - like continually telling @rugbynick that Wales are crap at rugby or telling @mikemclellandthat there is nothing wrong with buying a Skoda!
After all Twitter is still only about the people, isn't it?
Many people who are using Twitter for business, make the mistake of immediately 'launching a new sales channel' without any engagement with anybody. That is just WRONG - Twitter is a communication channel with an OFF button - the unfollow link - and people aren't afraid to use it.
If people don't like your message, what you are saying, or even the tone you use then your follower list will start to rapidly shrink.
So how do you tweet and manage to maintain your business integrity?
You need to mix up your tweets, and not just focus on you - get involved and get interested in others and SHOW IT!
People are happy to look and listen to what you have to say, but only in moderation, and only then if trust and a relationship has been established. So mix up the types of tweets you make, and engage with the community - business will come later.
Here are some types of tweets that you could be using to engage with the twittersphere:
Infotweet: What have you seen?what have you read? what websites have you seen that are interesting? which articles were in your RSS reader that day that blew your socks off? Get the message - tweet something that your followers will (hopefully) find interesting.
RT or Re-Tweet:Like a tweet you have read and want to share? Easy, retweet it to your followers. Maybe some of your followers will do the same with some of your tweets!
Help tweet: Want some help or advice? Want to buy an iPhone or a Blackberry Bold? Want to know where to stay in NY? Easy, just ask the twittersphere - put a tweet out. People will give you their opinion and usually very quickly as well!
Postman tweet: Post your latest blog posts via Twitter, it is a great way to do it.
Smiley tweet: Humour, fun and amusement! Something makes you laugh? Share it with a tweet - we all like to see those tweets, especially if they make you LOL!
and finally the Youtweet: Now you get the chance to tell us about what you do and how you do it! But just be careful how you pitch it, and be credible with some good web links to back it up.
If you just talk about you and your business, people get bored and will turn off, but show variety by mixing it up and you will be able to engage with a much wider audience. And if they like they way you do it, then people will naturally gravitate to your website, and they may well become customers or new clients in time.

Twitter is also an excellent tool that can bring the personality of the publisher to a blog. Since Twitter can never be used to tell the whole story, followers can be given a sneak peak at what is going on in the business, provide quick updates on company plans and post a link back to the blog.
