- MyParl - the £3.2 million social network
about Good Talent Attraction Is Crucial If there is anything to be done involving Euro-MP’s, the you can absolutely guarantee that they will end up spending a fortune. Well they have decided to build themselves a new social network just for them, and of course they will be spending taxpayers money to the tune of £3.2 million building it.
The new social networking website - MyParl.eu - will be restricted to parliamentarians, officially sanctioned NGOs (non-governmental organisation) and trade associations. It is being described as offering a unique online political forum with a social networking tool, enabling engagement with other parliamentarians across the EU.
Not all MEP’s actually agree with this (there is some sanity in Europe after all!), as many are already in Facebook and LinkedIn already. Godfrey Bloom, a UK independence Party MEP called the project a "colossal waste of money that is just more propoganda masquerading as information."
Martin Callanan, a Conservative MEP, said: "Facebook is free and offers much more interactivity than anything eurocrats can dream up.It is completely daft for the EU to try to do something that the internet and online communities are already doing."
Maybe MyParl has an ulterior motive - they are trying to get MEP’s using the social networking site to network with national parliamentarians across Europe, ahead of European elections next year. Wouldn’t to be voted out of the "Europe Club" after all, would they!!
So a free networking service for the MEP’s - funded by all us taxpayers!! I hope it is worth it!!

The best part of social networking is that it is free to users. Facebook. Myspace. Twitter. They are all free. Paying for social networking is an oxymoron. Hhhmmmm. There’s a double meaning in that.
