I can’t get to the interview as I have been arrested for armed robbery!!
In recruitment we have all seen and heard every excuse known to man for someone either being late for work or not even turning up, but there are still some unique (and funny) ones that happen occasionally. A genuinly true story happened to me a few years ago………….I had two contractors going to work on a site one morning to do some engineering work and they were due on site at 11.00am. A little earlier in a village local to the site, there had been an armed robbery at the bank. The two ‘robbers’ were both wearing white overalls and driving a red ford escort - guess what car my two contractors were driving AND guess what they were wearing - a red ford escort and white overalls!! The police must have thought it was christmas, and of course arrested my two guys as they drove past the said bank 10 minutes after the robbery!! One of my contractors was so worried about letting the client down he used his ‘one call’ to let me know he was going to be a little late - how about that for candidate control!
Have you ever had to tell a client his staff are late because they got arrested for armed robbery? (They did eventually see the funny side of it!)
