Social media has quickly become an integral part of recruitment strategies worldwide – for many it is already mainstream.

Historically in the recruitment industry, the focus has been on outbound marketing - calls, emails, mailshots, advertising, job boards etc. But over the last few years we have seen these methods of candidate attraction take longer, become less reliable and ultimately deliver fewer quality candidates for recruiters.

Social media platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Google + and (more recently) Pinterest have presented people with more choice, options and opportunities to find, research and apply for jobs, as well as the ability to engage more directly with recruiters.

Using social media content in recruitment is about helping people find you and your company in the social networks they are active in – sometimes before they are looking for a job – and then turning that awareness into a meaningful action, whether that be looking for a job, applying for one of your jobs, sharing your jobs with others or simply to start a conversation with you as an industry specialist.

Here is a short section of a presentation Andy Headworth delivered recently about social media content for recruitment explaining the power of inbound recruitment marketing.

 What has changed for recruiters?

Social media has added a new dimension to recruitment – inbound recruitment marketing. This is defined as the concept of earning the attention of candidates, making yourself easy to be found online and attracting candidates to your website by producing content they value.

What does that really mean to you?

Recruiters can now use the power of social media content marketing to create a steady inbound stream of relevant candidates that are interested in jobs and opportunities.

Inbound recruitment marketing has many benefits:

  • Improves brand awareness
  • Drives more organic traffic/ search traffic
  • Helps your natural SEO
  • Improves your digital footprint
  • Increases your ‘free’ direct candidate flow
  • Differentiates your business in your industry/sector
  • Provides social ‘proof’ of your knowledge/expertise
  • Starts the candidate engagement earlier
  • Reduces advertising costs

And remember, with social media now firmly part of everyday life, inbound recruitment marketing is going to become a very important part of the marketing mix for recruitment companies.
